Bio:
There are a multitude of poets who perform on the east coast, but none are quite like Chosen Lyric.

Lyric was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania; and grew up on Long Island in New York. However, it was Lyric’s time spent on the Treasure Coast living with his kid sisters, Christina Sugameli & Nicole Altman, that formed & shaped the early days of his career. He was mentored in performance poetry: not only by Fendson Dorvilus, who taught him to memorize everything, but also by Desiree Karnis Revis, who taught him to apply boldness into his delivery.

Lyric returned to New York, hit the poetry scene hard, and was published and became a featured performer around Long Island.
His very 1st publishing, in, “Visions, Verses, Voices,” was released by Colin Haskins & the Free Poets Collective of Connecticut in 2012. Since then, the Bards Initiative, Kathy Donnelly, and most recently: Holy Cow! Press in 2015. His chapbook, “#TheChosenLyricLife and Poemstars present: Root For The Underdog” was released in 2012. Lyric’s poems have been published ten times in nine anthologies.

On stage, Lyric’s heartfelt storytelling and grasp of performance arts has opened doors within Florida communities. He has performed for the 911 1st responders USA of Florida at Martin County High School & Jensen Beach High School in their 911 memorial for 2 years straight. He has also performed for the Salvation Army of Martin County & the TC parrotheads for their “Christmas In The Caribbean” event. In addition, Fendson Dorvilus also invited Lyric to participate in his “The Heart That Gives” Sickle Cell Anemia Benefit in 2012.

Lyric is an original co- creator of the Long Island, NY Spoken Word Entertainment Organization doing business as “Poemstars / Poemstars ENT.” Over the years, he has also worked with Image Visual 7 and Team O.B.E.Z. / OneBody Enterprise alongside his longtime girlfriend April “Sweettooth Beats” Hall. Lyric’s participated in a multitude of events and projects which held the attention of Protect Ya Neck Records/ PYN Digital, who brought him in as staff.
He maintained the Instagram Public Relations initiative assisting in the promotion and maintenance of other accounts owned by the company from 2015- 2017.

Next, Lyric took a hiatus in pursuit of entrepreneurship. He got into Real Estate, & Forex Trading, but in 2020, Lyric created The Hip Hop Push LLC. The Hip Hop Push LLC’s main purpose is Social Media Marketing. Realizing that the creation of the business was advantageous to his original poetry aims, he started the

Chosen Lyric’s published poetry has touched on various topics, such as the Terrorist Attacks of 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, Family, Love/ Break- Ups, Meditation, Recovery, Poverty & Economics.

“An Aunt And Her Nephew,” Chosen Lyric’s 4th Published Poem

My name is Chosen Lyric. I am a 10x published Spoken Word Poet, from Long Island, New York. I currently reside in Florida on the Treasure Coast. In my last blog post, I was discussing participating in a poetry/ music open mic at SteamWorks Coffee and Eatery in Port St Lucie that took place over the weekend. When digging through my photos & videos on my phone, I realized I didn’t post anything from my very first appearance at SteamWorks for Christelle’s “Step2TheMic” event in February, 2024.

At my very 1st arrival, I performed poems from memory that were previously published in various anthologies, & took photos clumsily holding all of the books I have been published in with the exception of one. Even I myself am surprised that I actually got up to ten publishings before I decided to further pursue Rap Marketing, and then Real Estate after that.

One of the poems I performed was selected for publication by Long Island’s own, Kathaleen Donnelly, for the calendar collection “Paumanok II: Interwoven.”

My poem was about an elderly woman and her nephew, and how even though the relationship between family & economy can create absence & loneliness, in the end, what’s most revealing is being present when it matters most. Do you believe I able to properly capture the nuance of the situation?

As for me, there are some upcoming open mics this week around town, & I’ll be tailoring my craft further prior to seeking booking opportunities and feature performances.

“She’s Going To See Her Agent” poem by Chosen Lyric

My name is Chosen Lyric. I am a 10x published Spoken Word Poet, from Long Island, New York. I moved to New York from Pennsylvania when I was 2 years old. Since 2024, I have lived in Florida, in Viera.

A few months after I arrived in Florida, I attended an open mic in Port St. Lucie. The host was Christelle Francois & the event was called “Step2themic.” Recently, I moved to Stuart, which is a short drive from Port St. Lucie. When I first relocated, the event was postponed for a few months. Now that all is well with Christelle, the event resumed on August 1, 2025. I was in attendance with my wife.

The 1st poem I decided to perform was a storytelling poem about Real Estate. I wrote the poem “She’s Going To See Her Agent” in 2019, shortly after I passed my state test to become a licensed New York Real Estate Agent.
Being in Real Estate & working with family has its ups & downs. I will be taking my Florida Real Estate Test soon.

The poem was about how a Real Estate Agent performing the regular duties of the position can be such a positive catalyst in the life of an individual in need of dire change. Was I able to properly capture the nuance of the situation?

After the conclusion of the event, I was made aware of the other poetry open mics, and I’ll be working on refining new pieces, writing new pieces, and relentless monetization efforts.

8 Year Anniversary Poem for April “Sweettooth Beats” Hall

With you in my life, I shine different/
My mind glistens/
Divine intention/
Provide attention/
Bringing each other higher,
With out the Climb ascending/
No lie, pretending/
No cheating & few arguments means less time for mending/
Happily ever after, Disney movies supplied the ending/
Happy with you always, it’s not like my pride’s depending/
Together: 2 lives we’re spending/
Do right, commending/
The light you sent in/
The brightest blend,&/
My father asks me when I’ll marry you: righteous ending/
Replies were endless/
Pointing to a distant future of high convention/
8 year anniversary is far from a minor mention/
